The L 1 visa allows multinational companies to transfer employees from a foreign office to a U.S. office in a managerial, executive, or specialized knowledge capacity. The L 1A is for managers and executives (valid for up to seven years), while the L 1B is for employees with specialized knowledge of the company's products, services, or procedures (valid for up to five years). Unlike the H 1B, the L 1 is not subject to an annual cap and does not require a prevailing wage determination. An experienced L 1 attorney helps companies structure the petition to demonstrate the qualifying relationship between the foreign and U.S. entities, the employee's qualifying role, and the specialized knowledge or managerial capacity that satisfies USCIS requirements.
